The incidence of ovarian cancer continues to rise while the cause of it remains unknown. Genetics will be the no. 1 explanation for its occurrence then the rest will be accounted to either diet or lifestyle. There are several researches that connect existence of ovarian cyst to ovarian cancer.

Ovarian cysts are fluid filled sacs found in the ovary. Most of them are benign. However, there are few cases where the cysts are cancerous in nature. The ovarian cysts which remain in the wall are subject to many factors making them behave in an unpredictable manner. These cysts grow in size and possibly rupture after. The rupture will cause severe pain in the lower abdomen of the woman. Bleeding is also noted and infection is present due to the spread of the contents after the rupture.
Once the ovarian cyst is diagnosed as cancerous, the staging of the cancer is important to know which cancer treatment is best taken. The three most recommended ovarian cancer treatments are surgery, chemotherapy and radiation therapy.

Since surgery involves incision, bleeding and infection is the priority of care for these patients. A more precise monitoring is needed considering that most cancer patients have coagulation problems. They are more prone to bleeding than non-cancer patients. They are also immunocompromised, therefore, the presence of infection will pose a great problem after surgery. Surgery is only advised if the cancer cells are still confined in the ovary or near adjacent area.

Chemotherapy is infusion of highly toxic drugs in the systemic circulation of the woman. This is recommended to patients with ovarian cancer that has already spread in distal areas in the attempt of killing the cancer cells. However, due to the drug toxicity, even normal cells are also affected. This is the reason why hair fall is present; bursting of lips and even sterility is possible since the cells that comprise them are the most sensitive.

Radiation therapy involves implanting radioactive rods or seeds to the cancerous ovary. The radiation will cease the life of the cancer cells. However, the patient becomes radioactive as well that she will not be allowed to mingle with other people on the course of treatment. Her being radioactive will be harmful for others around her. Calculated steps are made by the medical team in taking care of her so as not to put themselves in harm as well.

However, these suggested treatments do not assure the healing of the ovarian cancer. Some cancer treatments combine 2 methods to better stop the cancer. The complexities of the ovarian cancer cannot be defined therefore the solutions to the disease will remain varied.

Ovarian cyst is not as simple as it presents itself to be. When it frequently causes pain and bleeding, suspect more than it just being a lump in the ovary. It is best that a sample is taken or the whole ovarian cyst is removed and checked through biopsy. Ovarian cancer still has good prognosis if diagnosed at an early stage. This depends on how prompt the woman is in assessing herself and consulting her medical doctor about it.

An ovarian cyst is usually found in one ovary. They are sacs filled with fluid that forms usually after ovulation process. Some cysts are detected earlier but are not removed. This paves the way of another ovarian cyst forming on the other ovary. This is termed as “Bilateral ovarian cyst”. In simple terms, it means that both right and left ovary has ovarian cyst.

There are two ovarian cysts, therefore the manifestations are twice the degree. This is bad for the woman because the pain is felt on both right and left part of the abdomen as both of the cyst increase in size. The heaviness is greater considering two ovaries and their weights are added to that of the weight of the woman. The change in abdomen size is more noticeable.

Rupture is a more serious problem with this especially of both ovarian cysts ended up as such. Pain will no longer be tolerable and it is very important to get the woman to the nearest hospital for treatment.

Treatment after detection from ultrasound will still depend on the size of the ovarian cyst and the capacity of the body to withstand the treatment. The removal of the cysts can be done in a way that the ovaries are saved. But in complicated status, the ovaries are surgically removed. This means that there will be no possibility of ovulation and getting pregnant.

Bilateral ovarian cysts are still mostly benign and non-alarming. However because of the fact that there are 2 ovarian cysts, the symptoms become a burden to the woman. It is advised that she asks her doctor how to remove them early in a manner that is safe to her as well.

What happens when an ovarian cyst grows continuously in the ovary? This ovarian cyst will possibly rupture. The woman will feel severe pain on her lower abdomen that prompt attention and intervention is needed.

Blood loss is the initial problem in bleeding. If the bleeding is not stopped, the bleed will continue until the patient goes to hemorrhagic shock. The blood pressure of the patient will drop right away. The heart rate will increase to compensate the loss of blood. Losing blood means decrease blood circulation and it means losing oxygen delivery to the cells of the body. When oxygen is not delivered to the cells, it starts to deteriorate. The patient’s breathing also increase in the attempt to compensate the blood loss and augment oxygen depletion in the cells. The patient becomes cold and the skin will be clammy unless attended right away.

Bleeding due to rupture of the ovarian cyst will mean also that there will be a spread of cysts contents to the adjacent areas. The fluid or blood may fill open cavities and disrupt internal processes. The size of the cyst will be most likely the amount of fluid that goes out after the rupture. If the cyst is bigger than 10cm in diameter, congestion will highly be a result as well. Congestion will increase work load of the heart and affect respiration making it difficult for the woman to breath.

Bleeding of the ruptured ovarian cyst will also indicate possible scarring of the ovaries. If fever is noted, then there is presence of infection. The integrity of the ovaries will be in further harm if infection is present.
Therefore, a simple growing cyst has to be dealt with seriously. Seek medical advice when diagnosed with ovarian cyst. The bleeding complication can be life threatening. Early detection and action on ovarian cyst will prevent us from occurrence of rupture and the life-threatening bleeding complications.

Ovarian Cyst Ultrasound - A woman has a bloated abdomen, feels heavy and notices dull pain in the lower abdomen. She misses her period sometimes and feels pain during sexual intercourse. As the days go by, the abdomen is getting bigger but a pregnancy test results to negative. The initial impression will most likely be growing ovarian cyst.

However, these symptoms do not confirm ovarian cyst since there are other gastrointestinal problems having the same si gns and symptoms. The woman is advised to undergo pelvic examinations and sonograms to confirm ovarian cyst.

Pelvic ultrasound can be done in hospitals or clinics. For women, it is done to check the integrity of the ovaries, uterus and cervix. It determines the presence of cysts, lumps in the observed area or any problems that needs to be attended to. The woman is asked to drink a lot of water for a better transmission of waves used in the sonogram machine.

How is it done Ovarian Cyst Ultrasound?

The woman is asked to lie down on the bed and have her abdomen exposed. A gel is placed on the lower abdomen where the reproductive organs are located. This gel makes sure that no air passes in between the hand-held transducer and the abdomen. The gel also allows the transducer to glide smoothly on the abdomen.

The hand-held transducer is connected to a monitor. The sound waves and its frequency are transmitted to the ultrasound machine and display imagery for the doctor to interpret. The structure of the ovary and the uterus is determined. The presence of ovarian cyst is confirmed through ultrasound. It further identifies the size of the identified ovarian cyst.

Ovarian Cyst Ultrasound and pelvic examinations are done routinely for woman. This ensures that the ovaries are always checked and kept in its optimal functioning. We don’t rely on symptoms in confirming ovarian cyst. Pelvic ultrasound are more accurate in doing the job.

An emergency means that someone’s life is in great danger that quick response is needed for survival. The ovarian cyst, simple as it may sound, may be life threatening if not given utmost attention.

Ovarian cysts are like balloons filled with water, in the ovaries. They can be small as a pea or big as a basketball. Most of them are not cancerous but since it can grow in a big size, it causes heaviness and pain to the woman who has it. Preventing rupture of the ovarian cyst is the goal of any treatment not aiming to remove the cyst. If it occurs, there will be presence of excruciating pain and bleeding.

But when does it become an emergency case? As the ovarian cyst grows, it can behave in many ways. If the ovarian cyst twists or is in torsion, then it becomes an emergency case. When the ovarian cyst is in torsion or when it has twisted, it impedes the circulation of the ovary. The ovary dries and becomes necrotic predisposing the body to infection. This also leads to hemorrhagic shock due to massive blood loss due to the twisting. The patient is rushed to the hospital for immediate medical intervention as the breathing also of the patient will become erratic.

Ovarian cyst should not be left growing into big size. The bigger the ovarian cyst means the greater problems it will bring. The twisting is always possible since the ovarian cyst can become bigger than the ovary in size. Naturally, the weight of the ovarian cyst will affect the integrity and stability of the affected ovary.

The risk for emergency situation should be reason enough for women who has ovarian cyst to seek medical consultation. The emergency will not happen if earlier measures are done and the predisposing factors that lead to it are treated or eliminated early.

Ovarian cyst are sacs in the ovaries which contains fluid, blood or tissue. These are formed after ovulation process where the follicles that contain the egg cell fail to diminish after they release the egg for fertilization. This can happen to all women who are in age-bearing stage during ovulation. However, most of them are benign in nature.

If the ovarian cyst remains to be around 2cm in diameter, it will not put worries to a woman. There will no presence of discomfort felt while the cyst is present. It is only when the cyst becomes larger that poses anxiety to a woman. The woman begins to feel dull pain at her lower abdomen. As the cyst progresses in size, the pain and discomfort also progresses with it. Physically, the lower abdomen of the women starts to bulge like that of a pregnant woman. Weight gain is also noted with this and urgency in urination is more frequent that before. The bowel movement becomes difficult for the woman as well. As the ovarian cyst grows, it impedes functions of more organs. Irregular menstruation is observed and pain during intercourse is noted.

If pain becomes intolerable to the woman and there is a presence of bleeding, the ovarian cyst may have ruptured. If patient’s temperature increased as having fever, the complications of the rupture may have lead to infection.
At an early stage, it is a must that woman respond promptly. As soon as ultrasound has diagnoses ovarian cyst, ask the doctor what best treatment is possible. There are remedies for the discomfort and treatment for ovarian cyst which your doctor can discuss about.

Manifestation of pain can be dealt with pain medication. Pregnant woman has to be cautious as some of these medicines has side effect unborn child. Heat therapy will also help relax the abdominal muscles and relieve pain. At early stage, hormone therapy is usually recommended to help diminish the ovarian cyst. However, if the detection of the ovarian cyst was late and that it has already grown to a size greater than 4cm in diameter, aggressive treatment such as surgical removal is recommended. These surgeries are done though opening the abdomen and removing the ovarian cyst (laparotomy with cystectomy) or removing the ovarian cyst through small incision in the abdomen and guided imagery (laparoscopic cystectomy). The type of surgery will be based from what the woman and the doctor has together agreed upon

Ovarian Cyst Surgery - Open surgery is one of the recommended surgeries to remove ovarian cysts. Laparotomy is the opening of the abdomen and cystectomy is removal of the cyst. If the doctor evaluates that there is a need to remove the ovaries, then oophorectomy is done. This means the removal of both ovaries.

A series of blood test is given to the patient to ensure that the patient will be able to withstand the ovarian surgery. Clotting factors are evaluated to prevent bleeding and hemorrhage. The patient also is checked whether she is anemic to be able to know if the cells are in its best during the procedure and that there will be no alteration of consciousness after the anesthesia has worn out. Through blood test, it is also determined if the patient has infection or prone to one. This will prompt the physician to prescribe medications for the patient.

The night before the ovarian cyst surgery, the patient is advised not to take anything orally. This includes water, food and medications. Ensuring that nothing is taken will prevent aspiration tendencies during the ovarian cyst surgery. If the patient vomits during the surgery, it is most likely that she will swallow the contents directly because of the halted gagging reflex as a result of the anesthesia. The swallowing may reach the lungs and cause death.

On the day of the ovarian cyst surgery, the patient will be given preoperative medications before being sent to the operating room. Then, when the anesthesia is inducted, she will no longer be conscious of the procedure.

The surgeon, on the other hand, begins to prepare the site for opening. A horizontal incision is made to open the abdomen and locate the ovary. The cyst is removed from the walls of the abdomen by using a knife or a cautery pen. Then once the cyst is removed, the opened abdomen is closed through suturing. The specimen will then be sent for biopsy to determine whether it is benign or cancerous.

The patient is then cared for signs of bleeding and infection. Pain is also monitored after the surgery as it is expected that the anesthesia will wear off 4-6 hours after ovarian cyst surgery.

Understanding the surgery will make the woman fear less about it. This will also make her understand the consequences of the ovarian cyst surgery. Open surgery is just one of the suggested treatments for ovarian cyst. Whether it is the most recommended treatment, it is still best to consult your doctor about it.

Ovarian cysts form usually after ovulation process. When the follicle that encloses the eggs do not disappear , like they normally do, they are filled with water and blood instead. Once these sacs are filled and they grow around 2cm, they become ovarian cyst. Most of them are harmless and benign. Most are also functional which means they were formed after a normal ovulation process and not because of any disease.

When an ovarian cyst left inside the ovary, it continues to exist even at the next ovulation process. There is also a possibility that after the next ovulation, another ovarian cyst may be formed. This paves way on multiple ovarian cyst found even in one ovary.

This understanding is the reason why hormones are used as one of the treatment for ovarian cyst. Hormones are taken by woman to stop ovulation process. If the ovulation is halted, no possible ovarian cyst will be formed. Those ovarian cysts previously diagnosed will be give time to diminish as they normally do. Once the ovarian cysts disappeared through this method, the hormonal therapy will be used to regulate the ovulation process of the woman.

Hormonal therapy is done prior to suggesting surgery for ovarian cysts smaller than 4cm in diameter. This is not recommended when the ovarian cyst is more than the size of a regular orange fruit. But this is a good option for those who would want the ovarian cyst gone without having going through the fear of surgery.

Therefore, it is essential that the woman have herself checked at an earlier stage so that conservative treatments such as Hormonal therapy are done rather than the aggressive ones. Good prognosis is also possible with early detection of ovarian cyst.

Laparoscopy is a surgery to remove ovarian cysts. Most of the ovarian cysts, when they grow more than 2.5 cm, are recommended for removal. The large size makes it difficult for the ovary to function efficiently and the risk of possible rupture will causes further problems to the women such as pain and bleeding.

Laparoscopic cystectomy involves removing the ovarian cysts without opening the abdomen, opposite to that of laparotomy. The preparation before the surgery is the same though. The patient will be subjected to several blood tests making sure that no bleeding problems will be present during the operation. A checklist of possible allergies will be made to the patients to make sure that the drugs given will not predispose her to harm.

Laparoscopy involves only making 3 small incisions on the abdomen. The surgery is done using laparoscope to get inside the abdomen and a monitor to view the whole internal abdomen. The patient will be placed on general anesthesia in this procedure, letting her sleep all the time.

The procedure is done initially making a small incision hole on the abdomen. This incision hole will be used to insert first the probe to inflate the whole abdomen with Carbon dioxide. This will enable the surgeon to see the whole abdomen. The next 2 incisions will be for the scissor and clamp small enough to pass through the incision hole. The cyst is then located and gradually detached from the ovary wall by cutting through the scissors which at the same time can be a cautery pen to serve the same purpose. If the cyst has been detached, it will be placed in a small bag which will be lifted out of the abdomen through the incision hole. Once the cyst is out of the abdomen, the incisions will be closed though suturing.

The patient will be sent to the post anesthesia unit for monitoring bleeding, fever and pain. Since the surgery involves only small incision holes, recovery will be faster which will ranged around 2-3 weeks.

Laparoscopy, less stressful it may sound, has also its limitations. It can only be done when the size of the ovarian cyst is not than 10cmn in diameter due to the size of the incision holes. Women who wish to take this as an option should make sure that proper ultrasound has been done and consultation has been sought. Laparoscopy is said to be a better choice because it is less invasive to the patient.

4cm Ovarian Cyst - An ovarian cyst can grow in the walls of the ovary as big as 17 cm in diameter. They are fluid filled sacs that usually form after the ovulation process. All women in child bearing years can most likely have ovarian cyst.

Ovarian cyst is diagnosed through ultrasound. A cyst with 2cm size in diameter is like a pea we see in stores. When it is already 4 cm in diameter, the woman begins to experience discomfort in the lower abdomen where the ovarian cyst is located. As the cyst grows, number of discomforts is added. The woman will eventually feel heavy because of the weight of the ovarian cyst. The woman will begin to feel pain in the pelvis area and during sexual intercourse. When the woman frequently urinates, the ovarian cyst has grown big enough to put pressure to the urinary bladder.

The 4 cm ovarian cyst will have effects on the hormonal status of the woman. This may lead to irregular menstruation .The hormonal imbalance will lead to difficulty of woman to get pregnant.

An ovarian cyst measuring 4cm and greater are usually surgically removed from the ovary. Allowing the cyst to grow inside the body will add more problems to the woman. The cyst, when ruptured, will cause excruciating pain and massive bleeding. This will also cause torsion or twisting leading to much pain for the woman.

It is best to schedule an appointment with the doctor as soon as soon as you determine that the ovarian cyst is about 4cm big in diameter. The size is not to be ignored as there is a possibility of the ovarian cyst growing bigger. Early detection and prompt attention will definitely prevent further complications.
