Ovarian cancer is the most feared disease of every woman. Upon diagnosing through ultrasound that they have ovarian cyst, most of them associate it to ovarian cancer. Ovarian cancer is the cancer of the ovaries, which may be single or on both ovaries. The main cause of  ovarian cancer is still unknown since but may lead to a lot of factors such as  genetics,  diet and lifestyle.

However, studies show that ovarian cyst can lead to ovarian cancer when they are left untreated and ignored.  There are minor accounts to these but by the time that the cancer has been diagnosed, it is already in its terminal stage or in its worst status. Women usually don’t take notice because signs and symptoms is not present at early stages.
Ovarian cancer is diagnosed through biopsy. A portion of the ovarian cyst or the whole cyst is being removed and sent to laboratory. Biopsy will determine whether the specimen is benign or malignant. If cancerous, further test will determine if the cancer has metastasized or has spread to other organs.

The first sign of ovarian cancer is painless constant bleeding, If the size of the ovarian cyst is greater than 4cm, then the abdomen in noticeably bulging and the woman feels a certain degree of heaviness and bloatness. The woman is nauseated at several occasions and sometimes vomits. The occurrence of pain and presence of bleeding, at the same time, may signal rupture of the cysts. If the pain becomes very excruciating for the woman, then the cyst may have twisted the ovaries in their positions. This is a medical emergency as the twisting will result to impeding the circulation of the ovaries.

There are recommended treatments for ovarian cancers depending on the grade and stage of cancer. Surgical removal of the cancer tumor is recommended if the cancer is diagnosed at an early stage and has not metastasized. Radiation Therapy is also recommended which uses internal radiation to kill cancer cells of the patient. Chemotherapy is also done to help cancer patients by using highly toxic drugs to dissolve cancer cells. These methods can be also combined in the course of treating ovarian cancer.

Each of these methods has side effects to the patient. When they undergo surgery,  bleeding and infection is the priority in taking care of these patients.  The decrease in the function of immune system is a main side effect of radiation therapy and chemotherapy. This is the reason, why patients are not allowed to mingle with a lot of people on the course of the therapy.
There is no single best treatment for ovarian cancer.  It will always vary on the severity of the cancer and the physiologic tolerance of the patient to stand the treatment. This complexity should be enough warning for women to take care of their ovarian cysts, if they are diagnosed to have one, and seek medical advice on it promptly. No one is indispensable to ovarian cancer, but there will always be measures to prevent us from getting one.
