Types of Ovarian Cyst - THE OVARIAN CYSTS EVERY WOMAN SHOULD BE AWARE
Types of Ovarian Cyst - Ovarian cysts are fluid filled sac that are found in the ovaries which are usually idiopathic in nature. The occurrence differ in every women each time they are ovulating. But the effects of these cysts continually put women, on child bearing age, on the top of their toes in curiosity and anxiety.
During a woman’s ovulation period, the ovaries release the egg cell which is enclosed in a capsule called follicles. When the follicle fail to release the egg and fluid begins to accumulate inside, it starts to increase ion size. When the size is greater than 2 cm, then it is already called ovarian cyst which can be as small as a pea and as big as that of a play ball.
Most of the ovarian cysts are harmless and non-cancerous in nature. They are functional, which means they continue to exist without disrupting the ovulation process. However, some of them eventually rupture which causes pain and internal bleeding. There are non-functional cysts women should be aware of, as to prepare themselves of the prognosis.
Dermoid cyst are the type which contains the three germ layer derivatives. It contains skin, hair and sweat glands and sometimes may include teeth, eyes, fat and bone tissue. Due to the cells, this type of cyst is mostly benign and harmless.
Corpus Luteum cyst is the type of cyst that occurs after the follicle has release the egg cell for fertilization. The follicle becomes corpus luteum. But when it is filled with fluid or fat and remand on the walls of the ovary, it becomes a cyst.
Endometrial cyst are cysts that has been formed due to endometriosis, or condition where the tissues of the uterus grows on the ovaries, pelvis area, bladder and rectum. When the endometrial tissue is sloughed off and goes to the ovary. When ruptured, this cyst causes pain and bleeding.
Cystadenomas are abnormal growth tissue in the ovaries. They are non-threatening in nature but can grow into larger size, up to 12 cm in diameter, resulting to feeling of bloatness and discomfort to the woman.
These cysts form and grow in an unpredictable manner. Upon confirmatory diagnosis of ovarian cyst, prompt medical consultation should follow. The doctor will recommend whether a surgery is needed to remove the ovarian cyst. This depends on the type of the ovarian cysts and its size upon evaluation.
